HAN SANGYOON (South Korea, b.1985) holds an impressive education credentials having completed his studies in South Korea and Japan. He graduated from the College of Arts, Department of Art and Satirical Painting at Kyoto Seika University in Japan in 2007. He also holds a Master’s Degree in Satirical Cartoon at the Graduate School/College of Arts at the same university in 2009, and a PhD in Korean Painting at the Graduate School of Fine Arts in Dongguk University in Seoul Korea in 2011. He is currently a lecturer in Western Painting at the Chung-Ang University, and honorary member of Hawaii Korean Art Association.

Han dreams of a happy and victorious life free from the sufferings of the world as seen in his paintings by personifying the motif of the lucky omen as represented by the pigs. Pigs normally look happy, and in a larger sense, this can be interpreted as a lucky or an auspicious omen. Since the artist majored in satirical comics, the pigs in his early works represent a desire for materialism of the modern-day people. But after several years, the pigs that started from satire, and criticism gradually transformed into a vehicle of positivism. The pigs seen in his painting represent our siblings, parents, other beloved families, and friends focusing on diverse human relationships. “Just enjoy life full of excitement, overcoming the gray of the world.” – this is Han’s attitude in life.

He has held major solo exhibitions and has joined various distinguished competitions. His works have been auctioned at Hong Kong's prestigious Christies Auction in 2012, Taipei Auction under Isart Gallery in 2019, Taiwan's With Art in 2020, and other online auctions. In addition, Han has had his works featured at various media outlets, and his artworks are in several private and institutional collections.
